4k, or UHD Ultra High Definition, is a new definition of video, 4 times the clarity of 1080p HD. For this reason, it requires a lot more juice to run, and takes up much larger files sizes, meaning a lot of average or low powered pcs of today would not be able to run it very well. 4k video cameras and tvs are already available, although very pricey. A few new portable products are also able to boast 4k ability, such as the ‘Acer Liquid S2’ which features 4k camera and video, but it will still take quite some time to get into most people’s homes.
Now here’s something that could speed that up a fair deal: the new Snapdragon 805 processor. This builds upon the snapdragon 800 which is found in most of the high end android smartphones such as the galaxy s4 (quad core edition). The 805 is expected to come out next year, and features increased graphical capabilities which would allow it to handle 4k effectively, bringing 4k to more people as the 805 is added to popular smartphones.
