New alternative opiod painkiller testing

Opiods have severe withdrawal symptoms and are subject to abuse as a result of their many side effects, and yet they are prescribed frequently due to their unmatched pain relieving capabilities. Recent tests on an alternative to classical opiods have given successful results in short term relief with little to no withdrawal. Whilst it is still in early stages of testing, it will be interesting to follow this new drug and see if it is just as good at treating chronic pain, and what side effects present themselves.

It takes a different mechanism of action, using the mu receptors that opiods target, but also NOP receptors that opiods do not, resulting in the difference between the two drug classes.
